The former SRO in Chicago’s River North to be converted for use as hotel

CHICAGO – Chicago general contractor Summit Design + Build, LLC recently started work on restoring the Olympia Building at 611-613 N. Wells Street. The adaptive reuse project from Hawkins Way Capital will see the 25,000 square foot building, formerly a SRO, repurposed as a new boutique hotel.

Situated in the heart of Chicago’s River North neighborhood, the FOUND Hotel will have 60 guest rooms on floors two through four, a restaurant and café on the first floor, and a speakeasy style bar in the basement, with high-end finishes throughout.

“The most important part of the project for us is preserving the façade and restoring the building to its natural beauty,” said Ari Killian, Senior Project Manager, Summit Design + Build. “NORR [Architects] has created a design that maintains some of the historic charm of Chicago and the neighborhood, which is what makes adaptive reuse projects like this so great.”

Summit Design + Build, who initially handled the preconstruction, was retained to complete further stages of construction including the restoration of the exterior façade, interior and exterior structural reinforcement, replacement of all windows and the interior build-out.

NORR Architects are providing architectural services for the project.
