CHICAGO – Chicago general contractor, Summit Design + Build, LLC, recently completed renovations at the House of Blues and Aragon Ballroom, two well-known Chicago music venues. Each project included work to remodel and upgrade the VIP areas.
Located at 1106 W. Lawrence Avenue in Uptown, the Aragon Ballroom was the first of the two projects. While most of the historic building was left untouched, Summit’s scope included 9,500 square feet including renovating the first floor staff offices and expanding the men’s and women’s restrooms. On the second floor, attention was turned to the VIP area with the addition of VIP restrooms, rehab of the balcony and the transformation of an existing back stair into a private entrance.
The second of the projects, House of Blues, was negotiated following a positive performance at Aragon Ballroom. The unique saddle-shaped venue was originally completed in 1965 as part of the multi-phase Marina City complex. The members-only Foundation Room opened at the same time and features two floors of exclusive club space for professional and personal entertaining with multiple bars, dining rooms and prayer rooms.
Summit’s scope included a remodel of the third floor Foundation Dining Room while the fourth floor Foundation Room Lounge was left untouched. The main dining room was expanded to incorporate a semi-private dining room which had been located behind the bar. The remaining private dining room’s entrance was expanded, and cosmetic upgrades and new artwork where added to enhance the space. The remodel also included a new bar with custom millwork and stained glass windows, new flooring and lighting throughout, and the construction of a small stage in the main dining room.
RLE Partners and Valerio Dewalt Train & Associates served as the owner’s representative and project architect respectively. Both venues are owned by Live Nation.
