Office Build-out for Sparton Corporation in Schaumburg, Illinois Summit Design + Build, LLC, is pleased to announce that the firm has recently been selected for a 20,588 sq. ft. office build-out for Sparton Corporation at Woodfield Corporate Center located at 425 N. Martingale Rd. in Schaumburg, IL.

Sparton Corporation (NYSE:SPA), now in its 115th year, is a provider of complex and sophisticated electromechanical devices with capabilities that include concept development, industrial design, design and manufacturing engineering, production, distribution, field service and refurbishment. The primary markets served are Medical & Biotechnology, Military & Aerospace, and Industrial & Commercial. Headquartered in Schaumburg, IL, Sparton currently has nine manufacturing locations and four engineering design centers worldwide.

The firm, which is currently located in the same building, will be expanding to the entire tenth floor. Construction plans include the demolition of the existing space and build-out of a new reception area, multiple conference rooms, private offices, executive suite, board room and a new large training area with state-of-the-art technology. Lincoln Property Company is the property manager of Woodfield Corporate Center, a two building 711,532 square foot Class A office complex. Architectural services will be provided by EWP Architects. Completion is scheduled for late Spring 2015.

Renovation and Conversion of 1701 W. Division Summit Design + Build, LLC has recently begun the complete renovation and conversion of an existing multi-story 42,744 square foot warehouse building into an office complex at 1071 W. Division in Chicago, IL. The building which is situated at the southeast corner of Division and North Branch Streets was formerly home to Burhop Box & Packaging. 1071 Division Development, LLC is the owner/developer of the project.

The project requires the demolition of a portion of a first floor addition and the demolition of the entire fourth floor of the east half of the building and includes extensive masonry restoration, the installation of 3 new stair shafts and elevator, new mechanical, electrical and plumbing systems and new windows and doors throughout. The building's interior will feature a combination of drywall, exposed brick and exposed wood ceilings in tenant spaces and lobbies. SKJN Architekten Corp. is the architect for the project which is seeking LEED Gold certification.

Brooklyn Boulders First Indoor Rock Climbing Facility in Chicago Summit Design + Build, LLC has recently completed Brooklyn Boulders first indoor rock climbing facility at 100 S. Morgan in Chicago's West Loop neighborhood.

Brooklyn Boulders (BKB) designs, builds and operates hybrid rock climbing facilities anchored by the premise that physicality stimulates innovation and creativity. BKB Chicago offers progressive climbing and fitness experiences while providing an unconventional platform to bring the arts, music, culture, and entrepreneurial communities together. This marks the company's third gym overall and first in the Midwest. BKB's other locations include Brooklyn, NY and Somerville, MA.

The new 25,000 sq. ft. facility required the extensive renovation and build-out of an existing building which was formerly the home of Presbytery of Chicago. The project included the removal of the existing 25 ft. high roof and the construction of a new 55 ft. high addition in order to accommodate a mezzanine and climbing walls that span from floor to ceiling in the south building. The north building, which still bears the Chicago Presbytery stone monument, includes climbing terrain, shared office space, fitness studio, event space and café. Other amenities include locker rooms, showers and a customer lounge. The project was designed by Chris Ryan the Chief Development Office of Brooklyn Boulders Chicago in conjunction with the Massachusetts based Arrowstreet Architecture and Design.

Summit Design + Build Begins Construction for Big Hurt Brewhouse in Berwyn, IL

Big Hurt Brewhouse New Construction in Berwyn Summit Design + Build, LLC has been selected general contractor for Big Hurt Brewhouse at 6801 W. Cermak Road in Berwyn, IL. The project involves the redevelopment of an existing two-story limestone building, which was originally occupied by American State Bank and most recently Berwyn National Bank, into the flagship brew house for Chicago White Sox legend Frank Thomas who launched his line of specialty brew – Big Hurt Beer – in the fall of 2011.

Construction plans call for the complete gut and interior renovation of the existing 6,500 sq. ft. building. The new microbrewery, sports bar and grill will offer a family-friendly environment with planned promotions such as athlete appearances and on-site live broadcasts of sporting events. The restaurant will also feature an outdoor beer garden and include 2,200 sq. ft. of second floor offices and private suite. Kisarau Architect, LTD is providing architectural services for the project. Completion is scheduled for Fall 2014.

Summit Design + Build Selected Construction Manager for Vienna Beef's New 133,500 sq. ft. Manufacturing Plant in Chicago, IL

Vienna Beef New Manufacturing Plant Summit Design + Build has been selected construction manager for Vienna Beef Ltd's new manufacturing facility at 1000 W. Pershing Rd. in Chicago's Bridgeport neighborhood. Vienna Beef plans to relocate its manufacturing operations from its current headquarters at 2501 N. Damen to the 1000 W. Pershing facility when construction is completed.

Vienna Beef Ltd. ("Vienna") is a Chicago-based, globally recognized manufacturer of hot dogs and other specialty food products including corned beef, roast beef and soups. Vienna's history dates back to 1893 when its founders introduced the Chicago-style hot dog at a booth at the World's Columbian Exposition in Chicago. From there, the company quickly grew from a storefront operation to manufacturing and selling its products globally. Today, Vienna's products are sold in supermarkets, restaurants, hot dog stands and sports and entertainment venues throughout the U.S. and world. Vienna's headquarters and primary manufacturing facility have been located at 2501 W. Damen Avenue since 1972. The Damen Avenue facility is approximately 150,000 sq.ft. and employs approximately 300 individuals.

The 1000 W. Pershing Rd. facility formerly housed Best Kosher Foods which Sara Lee had purchased and subsequently closed in 2009 when they eliminated the brand. Since that time, the facility has only been partially occupied on a leased space basis. Construction plans call for the complete gut and renovation of the existing 121,500 sq. ft. building and two additions totaling 12,000 sq. ft. When complete, the new 133,500 plant will include office, processing and warehouse space. Siebert Engineers Inc. is providing architectural services for the project. Completion is scheduled for second quarter 2015.

Taylor Farms Renovation Summit Design + Build has recently completed an interior renovation of Taylor Farms Illinois Inc.'s existing 100,000 sq. ft. food packaging warehouse at 200 N. Artesian in Chicago's Garfield Park neighborhood.

Taylor Farms manufactures prepackaged salads and fresh-cut fruits and vegetables for the US foodservice and wholesale food industries.Their passion for high-quality food has expanded to include a wide variety of fresh deli products including freshly prepared side dishes, entrées, sandwiches, snacks and appetizer trays. The company is headquartered in Salinas, California and has eleven processing plants in the United States and one in Mexico.

The project included the removal and replacement of existing cooler panels and the relocation of existing mechanical, electrical, plumbing and fire protection systems. All work was completed while the plant was fully operational. Amstadter Architects provided architectural services for the project.

Summit Design + Build Selected General Contractor for Method's First U.S. Manufacturing Facility in Chicago's Historic Pullman Neighborhood

new text Summit Design + Build has been selected general contractor for Method's first U.S. manufacturing facility on a 22 acre site located at 720 E. 111th Street in Chicago's Historic Pullman neighborhood. The new 150,000 sq. ft. "green" manufacturing facility is slated to be the nation's first LEED Platinum certified manufacturing plant in the consumer packaged goods industry.

Founded in 2000, Method is the pioneer of premium plant-friendly and design-driven home, fabric and personal care products. Formulated with naturally derived, biodegradable ingredients, Method cleaners put the hurt on dirt without doing harm to people, creatures or the planet. Today, Method can be found in more than 40,000 retail locations throughout North America, Europe, Australia and Asia. Major national retailers include Target, Lowe's Home Improvement Centers and Kroger. Method is a privately held company headquartered in San Francisco, California.

According to Ari Killian, project manager leading the project team for Summit Design + Build, the new precast and steel manufacturing and warehouse facility will feature an 84,000 sq. ft. manufacturing area, 66,000 sq. ft. of distribution space and a 7,083 sq. ft. office mezzanine. A refurbished 230 foot, 600kW wind turbine, combined with solar trees in the parking lot and solar panels on the building will provide a significant amount of the plant's energy. Method's new facility will also include solar thermal hot water and daylight harvesting with a functional green roof with urban agriculture to benefit the local community.

Summit Design + Build's David Windelborn, project engineer, and Will Suckrow, superintendent, will be responsible for the on-site construction of Method's new facility. Heitman Architects is providing architectural services for the project. William McDonough + Partners is the project designer. Norris Design is the landscape architect. Spaceco Inc. is the civil engineer and KJWW Engineering Consultants is the MEP engineer for the project. Completion is scheduled for first quarter 2015.

(Chicago, IL) Groundbreaking ceremonies were held recently for WhirlyBall's new 50,000 sq. ft. facility on a 1.5 acre site at 1823 W. Webster which is located at the southwest corner of Webster and Elston Avenues in Chicago's Bucktown neighborhood.

WhirlyBall is an entertainment venue with activities of WhirlyBall and LaserTron. The new venue is adding bowling and meeting/event space for 250+ attendees. The full venue will be able to host private and corporate functions for 700+ guests and will offer full service kitchen and bar for any level of catering needs. WhirlyBall will be relocating to the new facility from their current location at 1880 W. Fullerton which will be razed to make room for the city's planned reconfiguration of the intersection of Damen, Elston and Fullerton Avenues. The current location will remain open until the new building is ready for occupancy.

According to David A. Brown, project manager leading the project team for Summit Design + Build, the new two-story WhirlyBall facility will be erected out of precast panels utilizing structural steel and concrete filled metal decks. The building will feature three WhirlyBall courts, 12 bowling lanes (8 on the first floor and 4 on the second), a multi-level LaserTag arena, a combination indoor/outdoor private event space, 5 party rooms, a full kitchen complete with a large bar and lounge area, and 5,000 sq. ft. of office.

Summit Design + Build's Heath Yarger, project engineer, and Shane Massey, superintendent, will be responsible for the on-site construction of WhirlyBall's new facility. OKW Architects is the project architect. Chicago-based Studio K Creative is the designer for the project. Completion is scheduled for October 2014.

Morgan St. in Chicago, IL. The building which is situated at the northeast corner of Morgan and Kinzie Streets was formerly home to Salisbury by Honeywell. This project is one of the first major developments north of the Metra tracks in the West Loop and should help the expansion of redevelopment in the area. 401 N Morgan, LLC is the owner/developer of the project.

According to Patrick Brown, senior project manager leading the project team for Summit Design + Build, the new 88,000 sq. ft. complex will house a restaurant, micro distillery, high tech office workspace and a multi-purpose event space featuring a new roof terrace offering spectacular views of the Chicago skyline.

John Marosi, superintendent of Summit Design + Build, will be responsible for the construction of 401 N. Morgan. Thomas Roszak Architecture is the project architect. C.E. Anderson & Associates, P.C. is the structural engineer and W-T Engineering, Inc. is the MEP engineer for the project.

Summit Design + Build, LLC Completes Renovation and Conversion of Existing Warehouse at 1200 Old Skokie Road in Highland Park, IL

new text Summit Design + Build, LLC recently completed the renovation and conversion of an existing 23,000 sq. ft., two story warehouse facility into a multi-tenant commercial building on a 2 acre site at 1200 Old Skokie Road in Highland Park, IL. TEF Highland Park LLC is the owner/developer of the project.

According to David A. Brown, project manager leading the project team for Summit Design + Build, the project encompassed an entirely redesigned space including updated bathrooms, the installation new MEP systems and the creation of a 10,000 sq. ft. warm shell for Tesla Motors Inc.'s new sales and service center on the first floor. A new 2,000 amp electrical service was also installed for Tesla's new state of the art supercharging stations now located at the south end of the building. The second phase of the project included the demolition and interior build-out for Bystol Performance Center, a 13,000 sq. ft. personal training facility on the second floor complete with new showers & bathrooms; rubber, turf and vinyl plank flooring; and a new stair and entrance to the facility from first floor. Phase three of the project which will be completed in spring 2014 involves extensive work to the façade of the building as well as a new 67 stall parking lot with full detention pond.

Will Suckrow, Superintendent of Summit Design + Build, was responsible for the on-site construction of 1200 Old Skokie Road. Sullivan Goulette Wilson, LTD. provided architectural services. Cartland Kraus Engineering was the MEP engineer for the project.

Summit Design + Build, LLC Completes Fairways in Chicago, Illinois

new text Summit Design + Build, LLC has recently completed Fairways, Chicago's first golf simulator restaurant and bar, in the former P.J. Clarke's space at 1141 W. Armitage in Chicago's Lincoln Park neighborhood.

According to David Brown, the project manager leading the project team for Summit Design + Build, the project required the complete renovation and build-out of an existing two-story building and combining it with an adjacent building into one restaurant featuring a new façade. The new 10,000 sq. ft., bi-level restaurant features three seating areas and a bar on the main level and four golf simulators with a lounge and bar on the second floor.

Summit Design + Build's Matt Piekarz, project engineer and Bob Best, superintendent, were responsible for the on-site construction of Fairways. Chicago Building Design was the project architect and 555 International was the project designer.
